Mulled wine

Christmas isn’t Christmas without some mulled wine! And you can make a big pan full before the party, with plenty to go round.

You will need:

  • 1 bottle red wine
  • 5 tablespoons Demerara sugar
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 orange
  • 4 whole cloves
  • Grated nutmeg

Add the red wine, sugar and spices into a large pan and heat gently to melt the sugar. Grate a bit of orange rind into the pan and then halve and add the orange. Mix it all together and taste it as it warms, adding more sugar if you want extra sweetness. When you’re happy with it and it’s piping hot, remove from the heat and serve.

Winter cocktail

This one is so simple and takes no time to make, and is ideal for those barbecue guests who prefer a cool yet warming drink.

  • 1 measure vodka
  • 200ml white wine
  • 50ml grapefruit juice
  • Squeeze of lime

All you need to do is add the vodka, wine, grapefruit and dash of lime into a glass, mix and serve.
