Ice Cream Bar & Barbecues

You may have read in one of my previous articles on this blog how I had asked my little ladies about what they would like to see at the next barbecue party. After a recent visit to Pizza Hut they both said they would like to have an Ice Cream Factory. Not wanting to disappoint I tried to make this vision a reality and although there were a few moments of stickiness, it actually worked quite well.

Ice cream, heat, sugar and insects don’t normally mix well at any time so before we set about doing it we decided to make a list of all the things that the kids would want and also how to control any mishaps should they happen.

Here is what the kids wanted:

Can you imagine the utter carnage this would have caused if we had let them do the shopping on their own? Instead we decided that they could have a few things off the list and some healthy options as well. By the time is was actually served they had forgotten about their original list and they were in candy heaven.

What we actually bought for them:

Preparing the ice cream & treats

It’s common sense that ice cream will melt in the heat of the day so 5 minutes before serving it, take the ice cream out of the freezer to allow it to soften a little thus giving you plenty of time to prepare the fruit and sweets.

  • Take the pre-prepared jelly out of the fridge
  • Chop the strawberries and bananas and place into separate bowls
  • Place a moderate amount of sweets in individual bowls (more can be added if needed)
  • Place the sauces on the side close to the treats
  • Supervise the rush and grab some for yourself

Forward thinking is the key to the success of this experiment and you will most certainly want to serve this inside the house, preferably the kitchen and away from the heat and the bugs. Baby wipes will most certainly be one of the wisest decisions you will make to clean up sticky faces and fingers.

As soon as the kids are happy and hyperactive, the next best thing is to clear up the mess and clean any leaks and spills that may have occurred. The last thing that you want to do is slip on an errant strawberry that may have fallen down during the madness.

If you’ve got the ice cream ready but no barbecue yet then have a look at our fantastic range of Landmann barbecues.
